Analysis Of Titles Of My Works So Far (December 11th, 2024)
So rionaleonhart made a post about looking back at the fics they wrote this year and why they titled them the way they did. I found it fun to read the thoughts so I decided to do something similar!
[Note: all my posted fics are for OMORI, a good chunk of them featuring uncomfortable subject matter (as in; featuring romanticized relationships I’d condemn IRL). Please know and protect yourself if you want to read any of them, I will note which ones they are.]

The Moon Is Holy Thanks To The Sun [Mari/Sunny ||includes romanticized incest] At the time I was roleplaying withseer_beetle for the ship. In one of their replies they wrote about the metaphor of how the moon only shone because of the sun (which haha her brother/crush is called Sunny). I was so inspired by this reply I ended up writing the fic. The fic does make references to divinity (the meat being a prequel fic where Mari feels guilty about being in love with Sunny), but I am too attached to the title to know if it fits or not.
Death Did Its Part [Mari/Sunny || includes romanticized incest] I was thinking of writing some angst using the self-given prompt of "all that mattered was coming home (and you are home)". So wrote some sunrise in the bad-ending / hospital-suicide ending of OMORI. Seeing as Sunny dies to reunite with Mari, I think it's fitting.
The Moon Shined On Them Both, Once [Hero/Sunny || includes a 19 yo dating a 16 yo (romanticized)] I was personally getting sick of all the sunset fics having Hero be a predator (which would depend on when Hero pursues Sunny. But this is not real life anyway), so I wrote a piece where Sunny has that fear but Hero assures him that it's not the case. Mari being Sunny's sister & Hero's previous lover are both referenced, so I think the title fits (I associate Mari with the moon ever since that roleplay).
Basil Thorn Was Not Meant For Happy Endings [QPR/Pale Basil/Aubrey] I was bitter like usual that Basil dying is both neutral endings but living in the bad ending (them both dying by suicide should be the bad ending) & in a photobomb mood, so I wrote this. Its writing in the style of Basil being fated to die in every timeline, till Aubrey literally breaks the narrative to save Basil. I think it fits as a tone-setter.
Your Name Is A Golden Bell Hung In My Heart [Mari/Sunny ||includes romanticized incest] Somebody on AO3 requested some happy sunrise, so I wrote that they got together, grew up, and are planning on keeping their relationship while Mari's worries fade away. I haven't even read The Last Unicorn, so arguably the title doesn't fit, I just loved the quote.
Solar Eclipse [Mari/Sunny ||includes romanticized incest] I just wanted to write about Sunny being depressed & missing his sister/crush post-game. Lots of flowery language, lots of angst. A solar eclipse is when the sun goes behind the moon, causing it that people are unable to look at the sky aka the moon, which fits with Sunny killing Mari, overshadowing her life, but forever. I think it fits.
Birthday Popsicles [Aubrey has a crush on Mari || 12 yo has a crush on a 15 yo (not romanticized)] Wanted to write femslash for once + make a fill, so I wrote some prequel fluff for these two (+ my girlfriend at the time loved the ship). It takes place at Aubrey's birthday while they eat popsicles, so I think it fits.
Mom Doesn't Drink, But We'll Do [Aubrey & Sunny || just underage drinking] Originally this was a fill for![[community profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/community.png)
kinkhub, but I missed the month + just was not happy with the direction, so I rewrote it to be just teenagers being silly with wine. It is what it says on the tin.
All The Flowers In Your Mouth [Mari/Sunny ||includes romanticized incest] I wanted to write something forsweetandshort and "What if the Mari is a ghost forced to haunt Sunny but shippy" was my idea. I thought the title fit at the time (something about how even though you try to pretend it is not horrible, it still rots), I only realized after posting it that this Shitty Horoscopes quote would've been perfect for a hanahaki fic! The Tragedy! Oh well, only to hope somebody else uses that quote in that way U_U
To Break Your Teeth On Love [Kel-centric, all in-game relationships referenced] Wanted to write a Kel focused fic where she was a) transfem and b) rightfully resentful about the situation that caused the story of OMORI. I love Kel being sunshine, but damn it she deserves to be bitter about it! The title is a Shitty Horoscopes quote, which I thought fit because Kel is emotionally hurt by the people she loves (intentionally or not).
If I were to analyze on what my title preferences are. I think it is very flowery, very poetic. I love me some titles which which can also work as a pretty quote.
